The Beaches in Lombok You’ll Have More to Yourself – The Lombok Dispatch

There are beaches in Lombok that everyone knows.

They have names that often appear on maps, photographs, travel lists, and social media. People come from far away just to see them, to take pictures, to watch the sunset, and to bring home a little piece of the island in their memories.

But Lombok has another kind of beauty. The kind that does not always have a sign. The kind that you may pass without knowing that, just a little further, the sea is waiting.

Somewhere between Tembobor and Medana, I found one of them.

It was not the kind of beach that made me feel as though I had arrived at a famous destination. There were no crowds competing for the same view, no rows of souvenir stalls, and no loud music telling me that I had reached somewhere worth visiting.

There was only the sea. The rocks. The wind. And the afternoon slowly turning gold.

I remember sitting there and looking at the water for a while. The sun was beginning to lower itself toward the horizon, leaving a long reflection across the surface of the sea. The waves arrived quietly between the rocks, sometimes touching my feet, sometimes retreating before they could. Nothing extraordinary was happening. And perhaps that was exactly what made it beautiful.

In Lombok, I think we sometimes forget how much beauty is already around us.

We speak about beaches as if beauty must always be discovered somewhere far away. We travel for hours, follow recommendations, search for places that have already been photographed hundreds of times.

Yet there are still beaches here that only a few people may know.

Perhaps not because they are less beautiful. Perhaps they have simply remained quiet. And I feel lucky that some of them are still that way.

There is something comforting about finding a place where nature does not seem to ask for anything from us. It does not ask us to buy something, to take a picture, or even to stay. It simply allows us to sit. To breathe. To watch the sky change.

The longer I looked at the beach that afternoon, the more I thought about how easily beauty can disappear when we stop taking care of it.

A beach can become crowded.

The water can become polluted.

The rocks can be covered with rubbish.

The quit can be replaced by noise.

And perhaps one day, we may return and wonder where the beauty went. But nature has always had its own way of responding to how we treat it.

When we leave it alone, it grows.

When we protect it, it stays.

When we care for it, sometimes it gives something back that cannot be bought.

A sunset.

A quiet afternoon.

The sound of waves between the rocks.

A view that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Maybe this is why I love the quieter beaches of Lombok. They remind me that beauty does not always need to be famous to be meaningful. There are still places on this island where the sea meets the land without asking to be admired by thousands of people. There are still corners that feel almost like a secret, not because they are meant to be hidden, but because they have not yet been discovered by everyone. And perhaps that is something worth protecting.

If you ever find yourself wandering through Lombok, do not only look for the beaches everyone tells you to visit. Sometimes, take the quieter road. Look beyond the familiar names. Let yourself stop somewhere without a crowd, without an itinerary, without the need to turn every beautiful moment into a destination.

You might find a beach between Tembobor and Medana.

You might find the sea glowing under the late afternoon sun.

And you might understand what I mean when I say that Lombok still has so much beauty left to keep quietly. Because when we learn to care of nature, perhaps nature answers in the gentlest way it knows: by showing us its beauty with love.
